As the end of the financial year nears, the thoughts of many of us turn to taxation (rather like Federal Parliament).

Of course, discussion of the “budget” is off limits, probably even for Brew and Chew, but the excitement about EOFY sales saturates the advertising pages of the newspapers (if you are still familiar with such things).

It threatens to push the Middle-East to small print columns towards the back of the paper, despite the anxiety of the US President to remain in the headlines. None of us can emulate (or wish to emulate) his birthday celebrations in Washington – perhaps we have only just moved on from when international disputes were settled by fights to the death by the champions of each side.

Which brings us to the World Cup – a likely thing to discuss at Brew and Chew.
