Brew & Chew
Brew and Chew

Many (if not most) of the participants in Brew and Chew are old enough to remember the events of 1956 – perhaps the Melbourne Games (in days when Victoria was interested in hosting those sort of sporting spectaculars) but, in some cases, and the author’s, also time in National Service and world events of that era.
The passing reference to National Service was triggered by a memory of turning up at a CMF parade and the joke being that we were about to be issued with a tropical kit in advance of a posting to Suez! Just banter but reflective of the times.
In particular, it may be remembered by some that, in that year, a bunch of not well-respected
non-anglo chaps seized control of a vital narrow waterway the Suez Canal in that case, a move that was opposed by the great powers of the day minus USA, but including Israel.
As a good friend of mine was want to say, “Ah, but, its all very different now!!” But it is no good trying to learn from the past – no-one listens.
So, B+C will meet to try to master the future, benefitting perhaps from the recent Probus speaker on AI, or from watching the success of those recent interlopers, Freo and Sydney.
